TBA game and development days rely on a team of referees, court controllers, coaches and game-day staff working together to keep competitions running safely, fairly and on time. This page brings together the information, resources and forms you need for your role.

Referees Domestic Competition
Referee Duties
Referees are expected to arrive on time, wear the correct referee shirt, and bring their own whistle and water bottle. Please arrive ready to officiate your allocated games and maintain a professional, fair and respectful approach towards players, coaches and fellow officials. All referees must be registered with TBA through Basketball Connect and may nominate games according to their availability.
Referees are paid according to their referee classification and the game they officiate. Junior and senior competitions have different pay rates, so please ensure you are familiar with the applicable rate for your allocated games.

Payments are managed through Basketball Connect via Stripe. Referees must follow the instructions to add their nominated bank account. If you prefer not to use Stripe, TBA can arrange direct deposit into your nominated bank account. Payments are reconciled weekly, with payments scheduled for Thursdays.
Referee Payments
Communication
TeamReach is TBA's communication platform for referees. Referees are expected to join the relevant TeamReach group and check it regularly for announcements, updates and important information. Competition draws will also be posted through TeamReach, so please check the group regularly to confirm your game allocations and stay up to date with any changes.

Referees SQJBC

SQJBC Referee Duties
Referees must arrive on time, wear the correct referee shirt and be ready to officiate their allocated games. Maintain a professional and respectful approach at all times. Please communicate promptly with the Referee Co-ordinators regarding availability, game allocations, changes or any issues that arise on game day.
SQJBC Referee Pay
Scan the Casual Workers QR code (right) after your games to log each game officiated. Payment rates are set by the Referee Co-ordinators according to your referee classification level. Payments are reconciled weekly and processed on Thursdays.

School Competition Referee
School Comp Referee Duties
Referees must arrive on time, wear the correct referee shirt and be ready to officiate their allocated games. Maintain a professional and respectful approach at all times. Please communicate promptly with the Referee Co-ordinators regarding availability, game allocations, changes or any issues that arise on game day.
Referee Pay
The School Comp referee pay is available at all score benches at each venue. In case you missed that code, here it is for you to scan. Please note that this is a unique code for this competition only. Scan the QR code (right) to log each game officiated. Payment rates are set by the Treasurer and is a flat fee. $20 for level referees and $12 for trainees. Payments are reconciled weekly and processed on Thursdays.


Court Controllers

Court Controller Duties
Court Controllers are responsible for helping ensure TBA competitions run smoothly, safely and on time. They must arrive before competition begins, be clearly identifiable and familiar with the draw, court allocations and game-day procedures. Duties include checking that referees and scorebench staff are ready, supporting developing referees, monitoring behaviour, responding to injuries or safety concerns, and reporting incidents or issues to the appropriate TBA Co-ordinator. Court Controllers are expected to remain approachable, communicate clearly and treat all players, coaches, officials and spectators fairly and respectfully.

Court Controllers must scan the Casual Workers QR code (right) to log their hours worked. Please ensure your details and hours are accurate. Payments are reconciled weekly and processed on Thursdays.

Development Coaches
Development Programme Coaches
Development Programme Coaches are expected to arrive on time, be appropriately dressed and prepared for each session. TBA may provide a TBA-branded polo shirt or other appropriate identification, which should be worn as directed. Coaches are responsible for delivering engaging, age-appropriate sessions that promote skill development, participation and enjoyment. Coaches must follow programme guidelines, maintain a safe and positive environment, and communicate promptly with the Development Co-ordinator regarding availability, session changes or any concerns.

Scan the Casual Workers QR code (right) to log your hours worked and sessions delivered. Use the drop-down menu to select the specific development programme you are coaching. Please ensure your details and submitted hours are accurate. Payments are reconciled weekly and processed on Thursdays.

Casual Game Day Staff

Casual game day staff are expected to arrive on time, be appropriately dressed and ready to carry out their allocated duties. TBA may provide a TBA-branded polo shirt or other appropriate identification, which should be worn as directed. Staff must follow the instructions of the relevant co-ordinator, communicate promptly regarding availability or changes, and maintain a professional and respectful approach when dealing with players, coaches, referees and spectators.
